56. Mathworks Minidrone Competition at the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) World Congress (E-12-MCHR-042-A)

The aim of the MathWorks Minidrone Competition and our project was to design an autonomous line-following drone which has the capability to follow a line, avoid obstacles and land safely on the designated landing pad. This objective was to be achieved using the MATLAB & Simulink software packages.

Initially, the competition was scheduled to be held live in Berlin, Germany, where the designed algorithm was to be deployed and tested on the drone hardware. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it transitioned to a virtual competition where teams showcased their designed algorithm via simulations. The team achieved third place in the competition that was held on 16 July. After the competition, the team continued to build on the simulation model and added more functionalities to the project.
